dvobsub.ax registering problem (win98se DX 8.1)

MessageAuthor

Hello... This is my very first post to this forum so please forgive me any mistakes. I have been using vobsub for some time without any problems (win2k). My trouble started when I installed win98 se and dx 8.1 on my friend's pc. Vobsub installer cannot register (load?) dvobsub.ax, registering it manually brings something like this "loading dvobsub.ax failed, error 0x0000485). Rundll32.exe dvobsub.ax, Configure also doesn't work... On my win2k I haven't encountered any of these problems (maybe DX is not as new as 8.1?). I am using WMP and ogm streams for audio/video. I think some people also have this problem, It already has been discussed but without any hints how to make it works. So...nice Win98se/DX 8.1 problem.... (Tested with VobSub 2.18, 2.17 and those from GKnot 0.23 and 0.26)

You need an updated version of the mfc dll's. I think installing a new version of IE or Office will install them if you can do that and then you shouldn't have a problem registering VobSub.dll

other problem might be that you're trying to register NT version (from W2k) of vobsub on w98. You have to use the installer to choose correct version for you

I encountert the same problem under win98se. It won't let dvobsub.ax register. It sais LoadLibrary("dvobsub.ax" failed, when i try it manually. So i installed, Office 2000, Word 2000, got some mfc updates from microsoft and updated directX. No succes, still the same message. The win98se is newly installed. What specific dll is needed?

Can you load the just the vobsub.dll file itself.. (rundll32 vobsub.dll,Configure) and see if it loads that way.. ? And you might wanna try updateing IE because generally it updates everything.. And before i ask you are using the Installer to install the files not copying them from some other computer?

yep I'm using the installer. When i click on show details it shows somewhere in the text: Could not load dvobsub.ax. When i do regsvr32 dvobsub.ax it gives a more detailed description. I will try to install IE, since I have 5.0 at the moment. Maybe somebody knows the exact dll to update, which would help. Oh, and yes, I can load the VobSub Configuration. Just the playback doesn't work.

Yes, updating to IE 6.0 SP1 did it!

I also experienced the problems mentioned above in using VobSub 2.23. I was already using IE 6.0 (on Windows 98 b), but it didn't work for me. What did work, and for which I want to extend my gratitude, was starting the installation of Office XP. (I would've never thought of it myself) BTW: I ghosted my system beforehand and during the second try, I discovered you can break off the Office XP installation, after the preinstall (it reboots after installing system components, but before actually installing Office XP. Just cancel after the boot and start the VobSub installation). Grtz, Volk.
