Dual Processor Support

MessageAuthor

I don't *think* PTLE 6.1.1 supports dual processors, or indeed Intel HT or anything else liable to give evryone a big power boost. Anyone know where this kind of thing is on the upgrade roadmap? Cheers JD

RE: Dual Processor Support

PT 6.1.1 does support dual processors. In a dual cpu setup, the cpu usage limit can be increased to 99%. This effectively assigns an entire cpu to PT. On the PC and Mac LE systems this has not proven to provide a significant increase in performance, but it does have it's advantages in the TDM market allowing for a huge number of RTAS plugs in addition to TDM plug instances.

Does any else know if this is true, that the advantage on an LE system is minimal when you make the jump from a single to a dual processor. I'm looking into upgrading either to a single Giga Designs 1.4 or to a dual Giga Designs 1.3. Thanks.

Thanks Rob for replying. What are the speeds of the different machines?

RE: Dual Processor Support

I think you're asking on the wrong forum Corey. IIRC, Giga Designs makes MAC CPU upgrade systems. This is the PC forum. On the PC, you can use a dual CPU system, but there's apparently no real performance improvement over a single CPU system. On the Mac, IIRC (If I Remember Correctly), there IS an improvement with the dual CPU systems... but to be sure, you should check over on the Mac PT LE forum. Best of luck with your upgrade.
