My 940 wentworth is using water there are no leaks. I filled it up last Tuesday at about 5pm and on Tuesday night after 40 miles parking up it spat the contents of its resevoir tank out. On opening the bonnet after an hour the Reservoir was full to the brim!! It is acting as if I am over filling the tank. Today it is empty from cold so I don't know if it needs filled up! Don't know if this is normal as I have not kept an eye on the level much. Temperature gauge sits slap in the middle of guage. I am a bit cautious if this is the first signs of the head gasket dying? The car has about 112,000 miles on it so it is still a baby...LOL Thanks SC
Sounds more like your thermostat is sticking causing back pressure in the system, what colour is the water in the pressure tank? If cloudy/brown suspect head gasket. Check all radiator and associated hoses, they have been known to collapse internally causing blockage and described symptoms. Are you getting any white smoke from exhaust (not early morning vapour) is there an odd smell to your exhaust fumes, kind of sickly sweet smell, if so could be head gasket. I would do thermostat 1st, and check all hoses, if you still have problem have the pressure tested and gas analyzed. good luck.
Hi, You can get a chemical test run on your expansion tank. Will test for HC's in the coolant.. You may also want to check the carpets inside - make sure they are not wet. JIC.. Des. . . ;)
Manual gearbox: Head gasket Air lock Stuck 'stat Blocked rad Automatic gearbox: As above, but also: Radiator failure (coolant bottle fills with brownish fluid)
I had the same issue and, with the help of some very nice folk on this forum, diagnosed a failed heater matrix.....carpets soaked/poor heater performance/decreased coolant level in reservoir,. If you're not puffing white-ish smoke from the exhaust when the car is warm and the reservoir is topped-up at time of that particular check; and no other leaks/back pressure is causing the loss then it has to be down to the heater system. Good luck with diagnosis.
It happened to me yesterday, the gearbox oil cooler burst, my water tank full of oil sludge. Change the core, did the flush, everything ok. But my driver side carpet still wet. About the white smoke..could it be a turbocharger failure....
