Recording Acoustic Direct Into -002R - Advice Please

MessageAuthor

Hi guy's, I have some clients coming over tomorrow and I want to record them playing their acoustics. Can I plug them directly into my -002R? Not looking for the best quality, just something decent (for lessons). I don't have an acoustic with a pickup to test it. Appreciate your help.

When I record 1 guitar I use an inexpensive MXL 604 SD Condensor. I want to record 2 guitarists at the same time tomorrow. I do also have an SM57 & 58.

A 57 would be just fine for recording an acoustic guitar if it doesn't need to sound amazing

Here's some sound advice... Never record acoustic guitars "plugged in" without a mic. Use at least one room mic (the condenser) to record the guitars since you don't have two matching mics and record to one track. Record the pickups of both students to one track each. It may be too awkward to have a mic in front of each student's guitar anyway? Afterwards, pan the pickups half left & half right, and keep the overhead in the middle. Eq & compress if necessary. Mix accordingly.
