RE: irritating problem bleeding power steering.

Ive just fitted a recon rack to my 760 g reg with the b280 engine. No problems fitting it but now the bleeding part is not going according to plan. Looking at the brickboard faq about the bleeding of this rack,it gives 3 steps for bleeding this the cam rack. Engine stopped lock to lock adding fluid slowly until no air bubbles appear in the reservoir.Step 2 cranking the engine ignition disarmed, until no air appears then with engine running lock to lock. But with me no amount of step 1 stopped air bubbles appearing, and even after a fair amount of driving Im still getting vibration from the steering and air appearing in the reservoir with the engine stopped moving from lock to lock. No leaks from the pump or the banjo unions on the rack itself allowing air in. I was talking to a ford mechanic the other night who said that certain mondeo racks have to be pressure bled to remove the air.....anyone got any experience........could it be the pump thats causing this?

some tractors was a pig to bleed and we had to hold them hard on each lock to lock with the engine running allso if a lot of air in the system the fluid will froth up and you prob would need to leave it over night to let it settle

When I've done racks on these cars in the past, I've filled the reservoir then lock to lock with engine running til it stops making noises! Remember to check the fluid level while doing this.

Had another go today emptying the reswrvoir then refilling with engine running and moving lock to lock for a good half an hour but no go ,still getting air/frothing in the reservoir and the vibration while driving. Get the feeling it might be the pump thats gone bottoms up. Intresting what you say about some of your tractors being a pig to bleed can you go into more detail.......cheers Ian
