keep an eye on those bushes!

MessageAuthor

Hi all! Having had to replace a clutch last week just said I'd share some info. The old clutch was 'glazed' from heat build up and improper engagement. The spring was worn/weak. The reason? My mechanic found that the pivot bushes in the clutch pedal had worn through which gave an extra 10mm free play over all in the clutch pedal which meant the clutch wasn't being fully disengaged during operation. My bad habit of sitting at the lights with the clutch down was causing undue heat in the clutch and weakening the spring. You were right about the spring mharriso! lesson learned!:speechless-smiley-6

My instructor stabbed the back of my hand with his pen if I left my hand on the gear stick.. god knows what he would have done if I rode the clutch. I always got told if you are stationary for more than 5 seconds, then use the handbrake.

Think we've found the problem with yong drivers, not enough abuse at teh wheel whilst learning.. bring backcapital punishment for driving in the fast lane when crawling, tail gating and changing lanes without indicating.... and for being a toss pot boy racer who can't take it on the track...

A bit off topic I know, but mharriso shows very confused thinking for someone apparently so concerned with driving standards! There is no such thing as a "fast lane" - well here in the UK anyway. And from my experioence not in Oz either. There is a lane to drive in and the rest are overtaking lanes. I am constantly amazed (and frustrated) by people who sit in the middle or outer lanes on motorways leaving the inner lanes empty and causing chaos behind them. Because they think they are "travelling fast". Please show some repect for lane discipline! Perhaps your instructor wasn't quite so quick with the punishment for this particular transgression?

LOL, rozza, the reson there is no fast lane (as it has been referred to for many years) is due to people driving below the allocated speed limit in said overtaking lane (your terminology) whilst not overtaking....therefore making it or any lane for that matter a slow lane.... As you mention Oz, mate its a free for all here, any lane is used for overtaking as the mentality seems to be only the far right lane is used for overtaking the others are to be used as "I" see fit...i.e. lane discipline is non existent and no-one give a toss... personally i don't worry about it, i choose to stick to the furthest left lane unless overtaking then i pull back to the left, else i commute on my zx10-r so traffic does little to hold me up.. hence i use it.... happy motoring all..
